Private Tuition | What is your learning style?
Updated: Sep 26, 2020
All students learn in a unique way. However, years ago, there was an assumption that all students learn the same way. Over time, research has discovered that there are many different styles of learners such as visual learners, auditory learners and kinaesthetic learners. Learning styles refers to the way in which you absorb, process, comprehend and retain information. By identifying the type of learner you are, your tutor will be better able to adapt your lessons to meet your learning style. By discovering and learning about your own learning style, you will be able to employ techniques that will improve the rate and quality of your learning. Some of you may find you have a dominant learning style whilst others may find they have multiple learning styles that they prefer to use in different circumstances.
This blog will show you 3 key types of learners.
Visual Learners
Visual learners remember and learn best through visual communication. They like to see information and have the opportunity to examine the relationships between different ideas. Visual learners tend to learn best with the use of visual aids such as, pictures, film clips. colours, charts and diagrams. Often, visual learners can see the words as pictures or other objects in their head. One of the many benefits of being a visual learner is that the human brain is able to process visual information much faster than plain text.
At Tech Tutors, we support visual learners by using visual aids and using highlighters and colours when making notes.

Auditory Learners
Auditory learners prefer to hear information instead of reading or seeing it. They respond well to sound, music, recordings, rhythms and rhymes. They have the ability to remain focused and listen for longer periods and they are able to follow verbal instructions with a high degree of accuracy. In order to process information, auditory learners tend to ask lots of questions.
At Tech Tutors, we support auditory learners by encouraging discussions and using rhymes, rhythms and sounds.

Kinaesthetic learners have a preference for physical, hands-on activities. They learn best with first-hand experience. They may not be keen to listen to or read instructions, instead they prefer to have a go at the task and learn by doing. Kinaesthetic learners can tend to fidget if sat for long periods of time. Kinaesthetic learners also tend to be scientific in nature and enjoy spending lots of time outdoors.
At Tech Tutors, we support kinaesthetic learners by providing regular movement breaks and providing opportunities to use concrete objects to support their learning.
