Special Educational Needs | How to Support EAL Learners
Updated: Feb 5, 2021
Does your child have English as an Additional Language (EAL)? In 2019, the Department for Education recorded that over 21% of learners in primary education have English as an Additional Language. Whilst this may not sound like a huge percentage, it equates to more than 1 million children.

Did you know?
A number of factors impact on the development of pupils’ language skills and their ability to apply these skills to their learning across the curriculum:
the age at which they enter the educational system
their previous experience of schooling and fluency in their first language
support structures for learning and language development at home and at school
Why is English important?
Developing your child's literacy in English will help them to better access the school curriculum and develop their confidence when reading and writing in English. Bilingualism is a sought after skill in the workplace, children and adult learners are keen to improve upon their English to enhance their job prospects.
How can we help?
One to one tuition provides focused support for EAL learners, enabling them to develop the areas of English in which they struggle in a calm and supportive way. Working with a tutor means that the student can learn at their own pace. Our tutors give students ample time to process information and respond to tasks. We work with students to address misconceptions and we challenge them to take their learning to the next level.
Crucially, our tutors care about your success. They develop students' confidence as they navigate through new material and build upon their existing knowledge in supportive manner.
