11+ Entrance Exams| How to Build Your Child’s Vocabulary to Pass the 11+

Updated: Feb 5, 2021

Having an extensive vocabulary is not just essential for passing the 11+ but is important for your child’s future. More often than not, children struggle with their 11+ exams because of limited vocabulary. At Tech Tutors, we have devised a list of ways you can help your child to develop their vocabulary.

Supporting your child to develop their vocabulary

Begin by downloading a 11+ vocabulary list. Ask your child to define each word and ensure they understand words with multiple meanings. Create a list of words that your child does not know. These should be the words they focus on. Take a few words each day but not too many to overload them. Ask them to look up the definitions of these words and then use these words in the context of a sentence. Ask them to think of 3 synonyms and antonyms for each word to help build further connections.

Getting further support to help your child pass their 11+ exam

Passing the 11 plus entrance exam is a challenge for all children as children are made to sit multiple exams in English and Maths as well as being put through their paces during a formal interview. At Tech Tutors, we can support your child to prepare for all aspects of their 11+ exams. Contact us today to find out how we can help you.
